Continuing education in the importance of saving money and establishing a positive credit history, this package of financial services is designed especially for young people between the ages of 12-18 years old. This program teaches the fundamentals of checking and savings accounts as well as establishing credit and learning how a credit union works.

Savings Account Requirements:

You must be between the ages of 12-18.

Membership savings account.

Checking Account Requirements:

You must be between the ages of 15-18.

You must have a Membership Savings Account.

Your parent or guardian must be a joint owner on the checking account.

An affidavit signed by a parent or guardian accepting full responsibility for minor must be notarized and in file.

Member must read educational material and pass the Generationz account test before a Generationz checking account can be opened.

A $200 minimum Line of Credit (LOC) must be opened on the parent/guardian’s account before a Generationz checking account can be opened. Overdraft protection from that LOC must be connected to the Generationz account. This will ensure the parent/guardian is notified of any overdrafts to the account. If parent/guardian does not qualify for LOC, the loan request must be approved by VP of Lending or EG.

Overdraft protection from other parent/guardian’s accounts can be set up as a backup to the Line of Credit.

Benefits to You:

Not only will you get a jump start on learning the value of saving money and establishing good credit, you will also benefit by accumulating points toward gift certificates based on the status of your account relationship. The following point system rewards our Generationz members for maintaining a positive relationship with the credit union:

  • Three points a quarter for checking accounts in good standing.
  • Points awarded quarterly for average daily balance—you’ll receive 1 point for every $100.
  • Ten points awarded for passing the initial educational test.
  • Four points for the completion of additional Web based training.
  • Four points for your participation in a credit union focus group.
  • One point (at maturity) for maintaining a Christmas Club account ($50 minimum balance required.)
  • Four points per semester when you present your report card with a 3.0 or higher semester grade point average.
  • Each point is worth .25 of a dollar. That means 4 points equal $1.00 in gift certificates. Your points will be calculated and tracked on a quarterly basis.

Your dividends are calculated on the average daily balance and credited to the account monthly.

You’ll enjoy maintaining savings and checking accounts free of service charges and minimum balance requirements. Plus, your first box of checks is free!

You may also qualify for a VISA Debit card that allows you 8 free transactions per month, providing you with access to your account 24/7.
